SAMUEL
Sometimes a family gets taken away from you, as in both our cases- but it can be possible to pick a new family.
CASEY
What’s that mean?
SAMUEL
It means we could be family to each other.
CASEY
You can’t just “make” a family. You’re born with one. Like it or not.
SAMUEL
And I believe if you don’t like what the cards say you can choose again.
CASEY
Me? Out of all the cards in the world- you are choosing me?
SAMUEL
I choose you. And I’d like you to choose me. We can live here together as a family.
CASEY
You nuts? What for?
SAMUEL
Because I never had a chance to teach any of my daughters how to be ladies.
They stop and stare at the rippling waters…
SAMUEL
There is an expression, that goes…embrace the tiger.
CASEY
Huh?
SAMUEL
It’s a Chinese saying for learning to love our fears. Our demons.
CASEY
What for?
SAMUEL
So that then you can control them and they not you.
CASEY
Of what? What were you scared of?
Samuel looks at Casey in the most serious light.
SAMUEL
Of you.
CASEY
Me?
SAMUEL
Of your ignorance. Nothing on earth frightens me so much as that.
